Public Works
Yukon Public Works is responsible for maintaining City infrastructure, which includes streets, bridges, drainage, and traffic control mechanisms, as well as water and wastewater operations, maintenance of City property and parks, and operations of Sanitation Services/Recycle Center. Each division of Public Works works cohesively to ensure Yukon citizens receive the best customer service.
Divisions
The Street division utilizes 14 employees to maintain Yukon's 308 lane miles of roads, approximately 375 acres of right-of-way, and drainage structures within the City. Street signage, traffic control devices, tree trimming, and edging are other assigned duties. Whether it is a winter storm, flood, or natural disaster, the Street division responds to protect and assist the citizens of Yukon.
Fleet Maintenance has a staff of four mechanics who maintain 158 city vehicles, 50 pieces of heavy equipment, 35 mowers and small equipment items, and nine generators.
Sanitation Services contains 12 employees responsible for picking up 12,662 poly karts, and 404 commercial dumpsters, and managing the 18,466 tons collected at the transfer station and received goods at the recycle center.
Each year, Yukon citizens use approximately 1 billion gallons of water. The Water and Wastewater division, comprised of 10 employees, is responsible for over 8,500 connections, just over 1.2 million feet of water line, and approximately 847,000 feet of sewer line. The City is assisted by Veolia Water, which is contracted to run the wastewater treatment plant, 10 lift stations, 3 booster stations, and 15 water wells.
Parks Maintenance utilizes 10 employees to maintain 12 parks and approximately 225 acres of grass. They play a large role in decorating for Christmas in the Park and also assist Parks and Recreation with many events.
The Property Maintenance division is an eight-person team responsible for all maintenance and cleaning of City facilities.
